Happy New Year...almost

So, I have to say New Year's Eve is a lot different when you have kids. Its 10:47 right now and I'm hoping to make it to midnight. I think I can. Maybe. We'll see. Tonight we had a New Year's Eve party with the kids and Sara. Colleen put on her favorite dress and made me dress up. She was so excited to have a party. We ate typical party food and played games, including candy land. Her prize for winning candyland was a new puzzle. She was really disappointed it wasn't candy. Silly me, why didn't I think of having candy as a prize for candyland? Then we played freeze dance. Colleen had a blast, but we all got tired, so it turned into us watching her dance. Then we watched a movie on the family channel called Ice Princess. Colleen loved it. She did pretty good. She made it until almost 10:00 and then told me she wanted to go to bed. It was fun. New Year's Eve parties are so fun once you have kids. We may not dress up and go out on the town, but to me staying at home with my kids is a blast. Colleen really knows how to have fun.

Merry Christmas

Sara and my parents came down on Saturday to spend the holiday. Yesterday we did last minute shopping and made our traditional cheese ball for our Christmas Eve party tonight. fun. We're going to take Colleen ice skating for the first time today and then attend the Christmas eve service and come home to have our annual Christmas Eve Party!!! Hooray! And sometime during the day Colleen is going to be making brownies for Santa. This is the first year colleen is really excited about Christmas and its Nolan's first Christmas, so it will be special. Colleen is starting to understand a little what Christmas is all about. Its cute. The other day she was playing her guitar and singing a song about baby Jesus, but it was a sad song. She sang about how Mary forgot to buy baby Jesus candy canes and he was sad. It was cute.

crying babies

Every baby has a turn off switch. You just have to find it. When Nolan is crying the sound of the wash machine and James Taylor stops his crying or as Colleen would say "hushes him down."

Still in Maryland

It is Monday night and the kids and I are still in Maryland. Yesterday evening we had to take Colleen back to the ER. She got sick again. They gave her another IV and ran some tests and xrays. Everything looked good, so they said its probably just a nasty virus kicking her butt. Poor kid had to have an IV and blood taken twice within a couple days. She was such a trooper though. She takes IVs better than any adults I know. The nurse yesterday had a harder time putting the IV in and Colleen cried briefly, but she didn't move and was so brave. I'm shooting for driving home on Wednesday now. Colleen was doing better today, but super sore and has a weak stomach.

The saddest thing in the world

It breaks my heart when my kids are sick. Wednesday afternoon colleen started puking. That went on all night until we finally took her to the ER early morning, because I was worried about dehydration and she hadn't slept at all. They had to put an IV in her. Its soo sad when they are so little and so sick. She was so big getting the IV though. SHe didn't cry or move. She's the strongest little girl I've ever seen. She's been doing better today, just a super sore throat and achy body. Last night she had a high fever, but that broke during the night. We are all super tired from being up all night Wednesday. We were supposed to go home yesterday, but Colleen couldn't travel, so rory had to catch a flight home alone. It was sad.
The saddest part was it snowed Wednesday and Colleen was so excited, but she only got to play in it about 10 minutes, because she got sick. She didn't get to build her snowman. So sad. Its going to melt today.

I'm in Maryland and its going to snow!!!

So, Rory and I came up to Maryland to bring my mom home. I'm really going to miss having her around to help. I was spoiled for awhile there.
Rory and his dad went to the steelers game on Sunday night in Pittsburgh. It rained the whole game, but they had a blast watching their team. I think its awesome they got to have a father/son moment.
Today my mom watched the kids while rory and I went on a lunch date and did some shopping at the outlets. It is so wierd being out without the kids. I missed them a lot, but it was fun doing some shopping for them and hanging out with Rory. I wish we lived in the same town and the grandparents so we could have date nights and see movies or something. Once you have kids you pretty much never go to the movies. You have to rent them for after the kids are in bed and by then you are so tired its hard to make it through a movie.
While we were out we bought Colleen some cute pink snow boots, because its supposed to snow a couple inches tomorrow. I know that is not much, but when you live in North Carolina you take what you can get. I can't wait to play in fresh crisp snow.
Tonight Colleen had a wedding. she wore one of my moms slips as a dress and married her doll Meme. Then was ate a cake made of crackers and cheese. She has such an imagination. it was so cute.
